The 423 acre Salt Ponds of Key West adjacent to the Grand Key Resort is an extraordinary undeveloped natural resource and an important link to the island’s heritage. Home to birds, waterfowl., unique marine life, and lush vegetation, the area comprises 20 percent of Key West surface area.
EDI formulated the Salt Pond Alliance as a non-profit 501(c)3 and provided the following services:(1999 to present)
Researched the history and environmental activates of the salt ponds
Organized Salt Pond Alliance, Inc.
Interviewed over 50 stakeholders from the environmental, public and private communities to produce the “Strategic Plan for Ecological/Historical Enhancement and passive enjoyment of the Key West Salt Ponds an Urban Wilderness Recreational Refuge”.
Provided marketing and public relations for fund raising opportunities from private, public and non-profit organizations.
Designed marketing materials such as collateral, advertising, electronic elements.
Developed a business plan and comprehensive site plan
Established a private-public partnership for the benefit of the Salt Ponds
Wrote grant proposals for federal and state funding
Keys Marine Conservancy, Inc.
Not-for Profit 501(c)3 has been founded as a pro-active community effort to help improve the overall quality of the Florida Keys marine environment. Dave Curry the owner of the Islander Resort has contributed financially to support the efforts of the Keys Marine Conservancy. The future projects could utilize the Islander ocean front property as environmental education nature based programs. Initially, the species to be cultivated are queen conch, long spine urchins and live coral---threatened basic habitat for much of the Keys Marine life.
